Hospice of Siouxland began serving patients and families in 1981. Initially, services were provided as a volunteer organization. In 1984, this program successfully met the standards required to become a Medicare certified Hospice program.
Through the years, Hospice of Siouxland has striven to meet the needs of patients and their families who were faced with a life limiting illness. Hospice of Siouxland has flourished due to a strong collaboration with area physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, other health care providers, churches and the community.
Hospice of Siouxland reached a milestone in its history in December of 1999, at which time, Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center finalized a partnership between the two health systems. The partnership resulted in joint ownership of Hospice of Siouxland demonstrating a strong commitment to meet community end of life needs. This, coupled with the expertise and credibility of Hospice of Siouxland leadership and employees, provides a strong foundation for the program to continue to grow and develop. |
