Anyone Can Refer a Patient to Hospice

A patient can be referred to hospice care by anyone-patients can even refer themselves. However, a physician must certify that the patient has a limited life expectancy, usually six months or less.

Choosing hospice care is not giving up.

In fact, choosing hospice means that the patient can look forward to living his or her remaining weeks or months in comfort, with dignity, and surrounded by people who care. Hospice care strives to help patients truly "live" without fear of being in pain, being alone, or losing control.

Family members should feel free to discuss the subject of hospice care at any time with their loved one's physician or by calling Hospice of Siouxland for more information. If you have questions about referrals to Hospice of Siouxland, or if you need more information about hospice services, please contact us at (712) 233-4144 or 1-800-383-4545.
